David Lynch

November 16, 2011

David Lynch has a solo album!? Sure enough, and it sounds just like you think it would. Crazy Clown Time sounds like it is just waiting for a film to be made for it.  Pitchfork has an interesting review of the album plus music history about David Lynch. He held a make-the-video competition for two of the songs, “I Know” and “Good Day Today” and you can check out a lot of the finalist (and winners) on youtube. Here’s the official winner for “I Know.” This should be a mandatory own along side your Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, etc. …

Try saying that name 5 times fast!?

I am digging Galactic Melt so hard. It’s my favorite sound of a sound scape. It’s electronic, it’s 80’s synth, it’s soundtrack — it’s sci-fi soundtrack. Yeah, and it’s funky. The music relates itself to everything and every mood (at least, in my life). And if you check out youtube & vimeo, there’s an infinite supply of super rad videos people have made via Com Truise. And there’s more. Where Tron (original Tron) and Blade Runner meet.

A wise person once said, “Com Truise is sooo Gop Tun.”

Those Sneaky Gorillaz

May 16, 2011

Originally released for free to fan club members … now available to buy. I didn’t even see this coming. The Fall was created during their North American tour on an iPad. Very experimental and at times, a journal vibe. Listen to the whole thing and get lots of details right here.  Not all the tracks are keepers, but there’s certainly more than enough to crush on.  A sense of freedom here … in the moment vibe.

The Gaslamp Killer DEATH GATE

December 22, 2010

He does it again. The Death Gate ep is crazy.  “When I’m in Awe” is an unbelievable song with vocals by Gonjasufi. Destroys. It is the same trippy sounds that came from Gonjasufi’s A Sufi and a Killer – a seemless match. Then there’s “Shattering Inner Journeys” with Computer Jay … yeah, that’s a spontaneous sounding trip. It moves so randomly. A trip lodged between the desert and a 70’s B-movie with psychedelics thrown in for fun. Insatiable need for this.

Vampires of Dartmoore

February 17, 2010

Horror groove gone mad, i mean bad, and bad as in baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

If you were into Vampyros Lesbos at all, then you will dig this just as much. A little kinky and a lotta funky. 60’s German groove all crazy styled.

How could I have a music blog related to the idea of mixtapes and not include The Gaslamp Killer?

I mean really … he puts out crazy releases that defy natural boundaries of mixtapes. There’s nothing he doesn’t touch … world, beat, hip-hop, psychedelic – seriously masters them all into your background for living. You sorta get the feeling he’s doing whatever he wants, regardless …  Anything he does with Gonjasufi is unbelievable. Gonjasufi is such amazement in voice and power. It is just about impossible to find his music except in bits and pieces (online) and on other people’s work. Mainly through videos. Take the time and listen … Gaslamp Killer Gonjasufi  Flying Lotus

Have you met Man Man yet?

January 21, 2010

There’s not a Man Man album I don’t like, and I suspect you will agree.  I know they don’t have a recent release, but they are still relevant as the big-top. These gypsies are the carnival. I mean there’s no way not to have a get down, this band has taken the notion of random and perfected it … digging through the chaos is worth it, I swear! Watch, this is freakin’ great! And so is this one (below).   This last video, is a super-rad mini movie. Man Man will cure what ails ya.
